This subject prepares students for the analysis of scientific texts and technical materials in the Azerbaijani language. Culture, environment, customs and traditions, history, economy, etc. topics are covered.

AZLL 103: Azerbaijani Language for Foreigners (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: None

Mainly, attention is paid to the development of skills such as reading, writing, listening and speaking. To inculcate these skills, greetings, introductions, congratulations and thanks, approvals, appeals, requests, apologies, condolences, etc. topics are taught.

AZLL 105: Azerbaijani Literature (University Requirements) (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 101

This subject covers all historical periods of Azerbaijani literature from ancient times to modern times. The life and creativity of prominent Azerbaijani poets and writers, as well as their specific artistic works, are examined. This subject also includes the history and theory of literature, the main goals and tasks of literary criticism, etc. briefly covers. The basis of this course is the study and discussion of selected works of prominent figures of Azerbaijani literature.

AZLL 342: Academic Writing and Reading (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: None

In the academic reading and writing course, students will develop academic research, reading and writing skills. This course provides students with general information about the structure and planning of academic writing, the main parts of academic writing. Students will be introduced to academic and non-academic texts, will be able to identify parts of the text, comment on the text, etc. they will learn. They will further enrich their knowledge of the Azerbaijani language. Note: this course is intended for international students.

AZLL 416: Literary Criticism (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 101.

Literary criticism examines the literary process as a whole, encourages the development of modern literature, cleans it of distortions and distortions, and directs it in the right and healthy direction. The role of literary criticism in the formation of society's literary taste and moral evolution is undeniable.

The role, importance, history and theoretical rules of literary criticism are taught in the course. This subject studies the importance of literature based on the requirements of aesthetics, evaluates the harmony between social life and literature, and analyzes literary works in terms of the interests and demands of society. Literary criticism helps to improve the quality of literary works and to evaluate literature, as well as the correct understanding of literary works by readers and the formation of artistic tastes.

AZLL 416: Literary Theory (6 ECTS credits)

Literary theory is the basis of literary science. Literary theory prepares the subject to master the idea-aesthetic nature of the literary process, the specificity and legal development of artistic creativity, the uniqueness of literary activity and creative understanding. The theory of literature defines the principles of analyzing and comprehensively evaluating literature, studies the laws that guide the development of artistic creativity, literary trends, methods and styles. When talking about fiction, its close connection with the development of social ideology, tradition and experience, the facts should be approached with modern thinking and thinking, the idea-aesthetic requirements of today, literary criteria and dimensions should be taken into account.

EDU 408: Teaching methodology of Azerbaijani language (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: EDU 101, EDU 302

The course will focus on the goals and tasks of teaching mother tongue to subject teachers, the content of Azerbaijani language training and the nature of intended learning outcomes, setting training goals, and methods of forming high cognitive skills to be gained. Teaching strategies of the mother tongue, requirements for the organization of training according to the theory of constructive learning, forms, methods and techniques used in the organization of training and planning of activities will be discussed, types of evaluation of student achievements and methods of preparation of evaluation tools, recommendations will be given about effective teaching and learning environment.

EDU 409: Methodology of Teaching Literature (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: EDU 101, EDU 302

Through the subject, students are brought to the attention of modern approaches related to the methodology of teaching the subject of literature in high school. Students are tried to acquire practical skills in school programs (curricula) on literature. The main goal here is to familiarize future teachers with the methods and techniques of forming the culture of literature and life, oral speech and written speech, and ensure that they acquire high cognitive skills such as communication, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and judgment.

History of Azerbaijani literature 1-6

This subject studies the creation and evolution of Azerbaijani literature, starting from early folklore and continuing to the present, in chronological order and along with the stages of development. The life and creativity of writers and poets who lived in different periods are taught, their literary activity is studied, the national and universal issues touched by them are analyzed, the literary influence of other writers and poets on each other is determined, and their creative activity is systematized according to the historical period in which they lived. This course is divided into 6 parts. Each part lasts 1 semester and each part consists of 6 credits. Those parts are:

AZLL 107: History of Azerbaijani Literature 1 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: None.

Azerbaijani literature has rich traditions. It is also consistent with the literary and aesthetic values ​​of the contemporary era. In the course of Azerbaijani literature, the stages of the historical development of Azerbaijani literature from ancient times to modern times are studied, the lives and works of prominent poets and writers, who have an important place in the culture of our nation, and a number of literary works created by them are analyzed. Written and oral analyzes and comparisons are made on literary texts.

AZLL 109: History of Azerbaijani Literature 2 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 107

The course "Ancient and medieval Azerbaijani literature" covers the history of our nation's literature of approximately 2000 years. The course will discuss the creation of our native language, including Arabic and Persian literature, development stages, a brief overview of different periods, as well as well-known literary monuments and outstanding literary figures of each period. Classical literary examples will be followed based on specific artistic examples.

AZLL 207: History of Azerbaijani Literature 3 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 109

The general features of world literature of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries are reviewed and various literary texts are mastered. Full information is given on the essence, regularity of historical development and representatives of literary trends such as romanticism, realism, existentialism, modernism and postmodernism. Concrete literary texts are analyzed.

AZLL 208 History of Azerbaijani Literature 4 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 207

The course "Azerbaijani literature in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century" covers a very important and rich period in the 2500-year history of our nation's literature. The course will discuss the emergence of our new period literature, development stages, characteristic features, as well as prominent literary figures of this period, important artistic examples, along with the continuation of classical literary traditions, the emergence and development of new trends in literature will be followed based on specific artistic examples.

AZLL 307: History of Azerbaijani Literature 5 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 208

In the course of Azerbaijani literature-5, the rich and complex historical period of our literature, from the 20s to the 60s of the 20th century, and the history of the artistic thinking and spirituality of our people are planned. The development of literature, its enrichment as a system of artistic thinking, new genre and style typology, method and various creative methods, school and dialectical connection of concepts formed the main characteristics of the literary stages of the 20th century. The revolutionary nature of the century, the fact that it contains equally destructive and creative tendencies, the continuous changes and transformations in human life, consciousness and spirituality are among the main problems of the literature of this period. Therefore, in the educational process, the study of the literary heritage of prominent artists, who have an important place in the cultural history of Azerbaijan, and the analysis of a number of literary works are planned in this context.

AZLL 352: Modern Azerbaijani Literature (History of Azerbaijani Literature 6) (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 307

The course of Azerbaijani literature-6 covers the rich and complex historical period of our literature since the 60s of the 20th century, the search for ideas of the artists who wrote and created in this period, the teaching of various creative methods, genre and style characteristics. The sixties are a new stage in the history of modern Azerbaijani literature, fundamentally different from the previous decades in terms of both essence and function. The sixties were the period when literary reality was gradually cleansed from the vulgar class and extreme party criteria, and turned to national and human values. In the sixties, above all, attention to Man deepened, these artists tried to penetrate the layers that were not the target of specific analysis and attention for the previous decades, or remained in the background. The teaching process includes those artists whose thoughts and ideas, characters and characters do not fit into the doctrine and concept of the traditional "Soviet man". Philosophically and aesthetically, the characteristics of this stage are usually determined by the criteria of the epochs of modernism and postmodernism. Accordingly, in the educational process, the study of the literary heritage of prominent artists, who have an important place in the cultural history of Azerbaijan, and the analysis of a number of literary works are planned in this context.

World literature 1-3

This subject covers the study of literature examples created in different countries of the world since ancient times. The life and activities of leading figures of world literature and the most famous literary works are studied in chronological order. The subject consists of three sections. Each unit lasts 1 semester and consists of 6 credits:

LIT 305: World Literature 1 (6 ECTS credits)

The Ancient Eastern Literature and Ancient (Ancient Greek and Roman) Literature ("World Literature-1") course will familiarize the students of the Faculty of Philology with the greatest verbal art, the life and creativity of genius wordsmiths who made unparalleled contributions to the treasure of world culture, the valuable and famous works they created, as well as their literary-aesthetic and philosophical worldviews, as well as the development stages and theoretical-practical directions of the said literature.

LIT 308: World Literature 2 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: LIT 305

World literature-2" ("European literature of the Middle Ages") is one of the necessary subjects taught in the higher literature education system of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The factors that make the teaching of the subject necessary are also a new perspective on the study of the literary historical process in that period, the study of the regularities of the literary historical development with modern methodology. "Medieval European literature", especially the literature of the Renaissance period, still remains relevant for modern literary studies. This is primarily related to the peculiarity of medieval European literature and the great influence it had on world literature. This subject not only forms the artistic and aesthetic taste of students, but also familiarizes them with the works of genius wordsmiths who have made a worthy contribution to the treasure of world culture. During the teaching of the subject, appropriate parallels are made between examples of European literature and Azerbaijani literature, special attention is paid to the principles of interaction of literary-historical processes.

LIT 405 World Literature 3 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: LIT 308

In addition to forming the artistic and aesthetic taste of students, the subject of world literature-3 introduces them closely to the works of master artists who made a worthy contribution to the treasure of world culture in the 19th-20th centuries. During the teaching of this subject, it is intended to analyze the main authors of the world literature of the XIX-XX centuries and their works, literary trends, new trends, according to three divisions (European literature, American literature and Russian literature) in chronological order and in a comparative manner. All this enables students to become deeply acquainted with the universal literary-aesthetic idea.

AZLL 106: Modern Azerbaijani Language 1 (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: None

This course covers the sound system, phonetic phenomenon and the rules of Azerbaijani literary language. Pronunciation norms, the formation and type of writing, the features of the alphabet, the structure of the vocabulary and its richness, features and ways of development are explained. Information is given about the spelling of the Azerbaijani language. The characteristic meaning of words, the types of proper names, their origin and their use in the literary language of Azerbaijan are highlighted. There is also information about the dictionary and its different types, dictionary compilation and word correction methods in the literary language.

AZLL 108: Modern Azerbaijani Language 2 (6 ECTS credits)

All important practical issues related to morphology are covered in this discipline. This curriculum analyzes the grammatical system, uniqueness and other features of the modern Azerbaijani language. Words are grouped according to their meaning, form, function and change rules.

AZLL 206: Modern Azerbaijani Language 3 (6 ECTS credits)

AZLL 512: Azerbaijani Dialectology (6 ECTS credits)

Dialects and dialects are studied in this branch of linguistics. Phonetic, lexical, morphological and syntactic features of dialects and dialects are explained. A broad classification of dialects and dialects of Azerbaijan is given based on the principles of geographical area, and theoretical issues of dialectology are also investigated.

LING 215: General Linguistics (6 ECTS credits)

Within the framework of the "Introduction to Linguistics" subject, the history of the emergence and formation of linguistics is studied. The essence, origin, duties, character and functions of language in the social environment, the position and contacts of linguistics in the system of world sciences are determined. At the same time, it covers issues such as the influence of society's development on language, language relations, the interaction of language with thinking, politics, and culture, and language norms.

SPH 202: Speech Culture and Stylistics (6 ECTS credits)

The subject "Speech culture and stylistics" is a field that not only covers the rules of cultural speech such as pronunciation culture, vocabulary culture, correct speech and correct writing, but also seeks ways to acquire these qualities and at the same time teaches it. In addition to covering information about the forms and types of written and spoken speech, it also covers the ways to use speech etiquette correctly, as well as the norms of the language, punctuation, spelling and orthographic rules.

This subject also contains information related to styles. As is known, the Azerbaijani language is quite rich in terms of styles. Along with the literary language, it is possible to observe the emergence of other styles as well as the artistic style was formed and enriched. The form and content characteristics and types of individual styles are included in the subjects taught by the subject.

LIT 201: Children's Literature (6 ECTS credits)

In the course, the historical development stages of children's literature, which is a special field of literature, will be studied, examples of children's literature related to the oral and written literature of different nations in the local and global context, famous authors who tried their hand in this field, their artistic examples, content, and artistic-aesthetic quality will be studied. At the same time, the fundamental quality of the authors' artistic works, which have an important place in world children's literature, in terms of image and content, is addressed from both the reader's and the researcher's point of view.

LIT 449: Sufism in Azerbaijani Literature (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: AZLL 109

A general acquaintance with Sufism, the things that are supposed to be done and considered important in the field of human perfection. Acquaintance with the pearls of Sufi literature of the East, especially with the most famous philosophical and mystical personalities of Azerbaijan and their works. During this introduction, the requirements will also be taught a special terminology to understand the Sufi and mystical shades in the works of thinkers.

AZLL 211: Ancient Alphabet (6 ECTS credits)

Prerequisite: none

The old alphabet is the alphabet used in the Turkic languages, the leading languages ​​of the East, since the Middle Ages. Since this alphabet was created on the basis of the Arabic and Persian alphabets, and this alphabet is used in all three languages, it has led to the development of many common grammatical features and common words in these languages. But despite all the similarities, the uniqueness of the Azerbaijani alphabet was able to create differences.

PERS 206: Persian Language (6 ECTS credits)

The Persian language is taught as a practical language to students majoring in "Azerbaijani language and literature" as a non-major subject. The Persian language, which has a major role among the Eastern languages ​​and has been known as the language of science and literature since ancient times, plays a necessary role in reading and understanding the Persian-language texts available in our rich written archives, as well as the works of our classics and multilingual poetry and prose works written before the 1940s.

FREN 101: French 1 (6 ECTS credits)

The "German language 1" course covers simple grammar rules of the German language. In the course, the lexical grammar rules of the German language (verb according to person, present and past tense, etc.) will be studied.

GERM 202: German 2 (6 ECTS credits)

The German language is taught as a practical language, as a non-specialized subject in the faculties. The main goal of the course is aimed at students who know the German language at the A1 level, to learn the lexical grammar rules of the German language at the A2 level. In the course, the lexical grammar rules of the German language (tense forms, branch sentences, conjunctive form, passive verbs, passive type, etc.) will be studied.

LIT 505: Contemporary Literary Process (6 ECTS credits)

The main goal of this subject is to explain the development trends of literature based on the analysis of literary works of recent years. This course covers issues such as the theme, content, style, genre, and craft characteristics of the modern literary process with the analysis of specific examples by genre, tradition and modernity, literary relations between old and new literary forces. Also, the influence of world literature on Azerbaijani literature, issues of integration of Azerbaijani literature into world literature are also included in the scope of the course.

AZLL 417: Influence of Oriental Languages ​​on Azerbaijani Literature (8 ECTS credits)

It is known that a certain part of Azerbaijani literature was created in Arabic and Persian languages, and a long period of our literature was formed under the influence of Arabic-Persian language. The main goal of this course is to study the influence of Arabic and Persian languages ​​on the formation of literary works and literature.

Talks about speech sounds and phonetic phenomena (pitch, length and strength of the tone), meaning-distinguishing element of words (phoneme), morphemes and the phoneme system of the language and their functional properties.

AZLL 513: Onomastics (6 ECTS credits)

The proliferation and intensity of the mass media, the expansion of the scope of the Internet and communication tools activates the process of word acquisition and terminalization in the language. The ongoing political-economic and technological processes necessitate the transfer of new terms to the language, and for this reason, the processing of borrowed terms in the language is considered one of the main directions of the development of the terminological lexicon. In this regard, the examination of the terminological lexicon of the modern Azerbaijani language on theoretical aspects is considered one of the important issues.
